the nostalgic feeling of charity, community and love is definitely in the air, and we want to thank each and every one of you sS’ers for supporting your local small business, we love helping to improve the health and wellbeing of our community!
kim, christine and our friends AK & KH share a community garden plot at koshland gardens, a small neighborhood park in hayes valley (on page & buchanan – check it out!). the garden was created by COMMUNITY GROWS, an environmental education program serving high-needs youth, especially those living in public housing in san francisco. these youngins acquire the necessary skills to live a healthy life through garden education, nutritious cooking and eating, and green jobs training.
kim also recently attended a fundraiser for LYON-MARTIN HEALTH SERVICES. lyon-martin health services provides excellent health care to women, lesbians and transgender people in a safe and compassionate environment, with sensitivity to sexual orientation and gender identity; all services are regardless of ability to pay. the clinic was named after phyllis lyon and del martin, feminists and well known LGBTQ civil rights activists. these empowering women were lesbian BEFORE being lesbian became cool – read about their story here!
for over 40 years, the SAN FRANCISCO BICYCLE COALITION has been transforming san francisco’s streets and neighborhoods into more livable and safe places by promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. through their day-to-day advocacy, education, and working partnerships with government and community agencies, the sfbc is helping to create safer streets and more livable communities for all san franciscans. they are responsible for putting on the class that christine and kim took, on learning to ride safely and responsibly in the city!
skinSALVATION is proud to have been able to make some $$$ donations to these three wonderful grass roots causes close to our hearts. we’ve got to teach the youth to live healthy sustainable lives, empower women and support the environment – of which cycling is only one of the many ways.
we are thankful for you, our loyal sS’ers of course – but also thankful for these organizations who work so tirelessly and generously to make our city a better place to live.
who are you thankful for? who will YOU be supporting this year?
